Designer Highlight - Leslie May

With Mother's Day around the corner, I thought it would be fun to highlight an interior designer, who blends high style with family friendly durability. Leslie May, whose work appears in this month's Connecticut Cottages & Gardens is a young mother of 3, who pens the blog Family Style, in addition to creating beautiful spaces.

What made Leslie's work jump out at me, aside from being chic and stylish, was that I once worked with Leslie. In what seems like a lifetime ago, I was living in NYC and about to have my oldest son. Leslie helped me zhush up my existing apartment furnishings and was working with me on the nursery.....when life happened. My husband was transferred from New York City to Charlotte, NC in the fall of 2011...and as you know what was happening around that time, I was thrilled to head South.

How fun to see her work recognized by CTC&G as well as other shelter magazines. To see the whole article, go here.
And, I can't help but wonder what the nursery would have looked like if we had been able to finish what we were working on.

Here's to all the mother's out there, doing their best to create a happy stylish home!

Friday Finds

So thrilled it's the weekend! Tonight I'll be in the city to see a play. I'll report back if it's good and worth mentioning.

This week, I received my personalized, signed copy of Gwyneth Paltrow's new cookbook, It's All Good! I dare say that the value of the book is already worth far more than it's cover price. I'm actually looking forward to working my way through this book, as I had already started eliminating certain things in my diet and felt better because of it. Gluten and dairy are all but gone and I cut back hard on caffeine and alcohol. I feel better, without a doubt, but need to figure out how to maintain a cleaner way of eating. So....perfect timing GP. Seems she has been doing the same.
Next up is my new favorite source for personalized notepads. Haute Papier. Yes, the same company which created the Haute Box. For my local readers, you can order these at Therese Saint Claire in Greenwich, CT.
The hot pink version is for my main desk - where pink reigns supreme. The celadon version is for the desk in my bedroom. I think this is my new hostess and birthday gift!!
Finally, the Metropolitan Museum of Art's newest exhibit by the Costume Institute promises to spark conversation! If you're visiting NYC this summer, check it out!

Do you have any great finds you want to share? Wherever you find yourself this week, have fun and make the most of it!

Juicy Colors

April is drawing to a close....yet it's still freezing here. But, the one thing that keeps me going is the changing landscape of colors. Yellow forsythia. Pink cherry blossoms and budding greens. I noticed that when I'm out driving about, seeing this mix of colors makes me smile and realize that this is such a special season. (Even if a sweater is still required).

Then, I noticed....those were the very colors on my desk.

I wonder if that's my inner life imitating my outer life. Or, maybe just colors I really like together!!!

What colors are surrounding you?

Sweeter Dreams

How was your weekend? Did you get a good night's sleep? I'm sleeping better than ever, thanks to the arrival of my new Leontine Linens! Back in February, I shared 2 designs that the venerable linen company, based in New Orleans, had created for me. So, which one did I pick? Celeste! I loved both the options, but this one seemed to be a little more me.

Here's a peek at how it looks. Pardon the not so great lighting.

My color choice for the monogram (the color is Marble) is obviously very part because of other accents in the room, which are celadon, robin's egg blue and chocolate brown. And, partly because I kept the same headboard, dust ruffle and roll pillow. I loved each of these "decade old" elements, so this was a way of updating without starting from scratch.
The duvet cover is made of their super soft sheeting and trimmed with a more narrow scallop trim. I burrow under a stack of covers and this keeps things as comfortable as they are pretty.

What helps you get a great night's sleep? Soft pillow? Favorite sheets? Night time ritual? I'd love to know!

This & That's Friday!! The winding down of the work week and the anticipation of leisure.

Today, I have a little bit of this and that for your weekend reading. First, I wanted to announce the winner of the Angela's Garden gardening glove give away. Congratulations to my talented friend and fellow Westchester blogger, Patricia of pve design!!! Let me know what size and color of the classic glove you would like and we'll get those sent right over!!
Next, with Mother's Day, Father's Day and graduations soon upon us, it always helps to have fresh gift ideas. You will find them in spades in this new guide, to&from, curated by stylish bloggers, many of whom you probably know.
Finally, I am honored to have my home featured as an "inspired home" on the always colorful and visually delicious blog, The French Tangerine. Many of the photos you may have seen, but I have to admit it's fun to see someone else's take on things. Honestly, I think Jan makes my home look better than I do. Hop over to take a look and I know you'll find tons of inspiration from many of her other featured homes.

What's inspiring you this weekend?

Shop I Love: Hudson Grace

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? I was holding down the fort while my husband was away, so it was just me and the boys, running from one sporting event to the next.

If I still lived in San Francisco, which I did during my first year of marriage (no children then), I would have spent my weekend poking through Hudson Grace. Just a couple of blocks from where I lived on Jackson Street in Presidio Heights, this sweetheart of a shop opened last fall on Sacramento Street. Hudson Grace is the shared dream of Monelle Totah and Gary McNatton. Monelle brings extensive retail expertise in home and tabletop development for Williams-Sonoma and Banana Republic. Gary is an award winning product, packaging and fragrance designer for clients including Gap, Banana Republic and Restoration Hardware.
I can feel in my bones how much I'd love this shop. I just like the way the owners think.
"We both love to entertain in our homes. We believe entertaining should be gracious, fun and always inspiring".
For now, you'll have to check them out in person, as they don't have online shopping....yet. Maybe I'll just have to take a trip down memory lane and wander in, just as I would have 14 years ago. I really miss that neighborhood.

What's happening in your neighborhood?

Gardening Gloves - A Handy Give Away

Finally....things are starting to bloom in my yard. Daffodils, which are new this year, are dotting our side yard with yellow. Only a matter of weeks until those pretty pink tulips start to bloom. Speaking of which....Pretty Pink Tulips is 3 years old! My how the time has flown.

Thank you for letting me share my love of flowers, entertaining, home decor, parties, fun finds and more with you these past 3 years. Without you, I'm just talking to the air. I love your comments and the friendships that have bloomed.

How perfect that the sweet folks at Angela's Garden want to give away a pair of their fabulous gardening gloves to one of you! Whether you're a master gardener or thinking about starting a kitchen garden this summer, a great pair of gloves comes in handy!!
Your choice of color and size of a pair of their classic gloves -- made of washable kidskin leather. Dress glove fit and construction give these a close and comfortable fit. Outside seams prevent blisters. Great gift for someone if you're not into gardening!

Pencil This In

Do you like pencils? Or are you more of a pen person? You know....inking things in. Making them permanent. Or do you feel the need for some flexibility that an eraser provides? I actually like them both. But, I have a thing for pencils. I like them sharp. And, I love these sets for their charming attitude.

What have you got penciled in this week?

Home Sweet Home

Good Monday morning, everyone!! How was your weekend? Ours was great...that perfect combination of family time and seeing friends. Flag football games and work around the house. Dinner in the city and a fundraiser in the "burbs". Exercise and relaxation. Balance in all areas.

Today, I am thrilled to be sharing more about our home for a special blogger series hosted by my friend, Tina, of the fabulously inspiring blog,  The Enchanted Home!! Come on over and see what's new. The family room is currently undergoing some changes....even a color change that might surprise you!! You'll get a glimpse into the new playroom...not yet completed. And, hear what I'd do to the house if money was no object!
No, things are not blooming in this area yet....except the daffodils, but these are my favorite exterior photos of the house. I keep telling myself....soon, things will bloom, soon!

So, what's your favorite spot in your home? Where would I find you on any given day? Come on....we're friends, you can share!
