The Welcoming House

Mark your calendars for March 19th! This new book is one you are going to want to have and savor!

The Welcoming Home: The Art of Living Graciously is co-authored by best friends & design aficionados, Jane Schwab and Cindy Smith, of the acclaimed shops and interior design firm, Circa Interiors.
When I lived in Charlotte, down the street from their main shop, I found myself wandering in all the time. Some of my very favorite pieces in my home came from Circa. Their style influenced my style. Visiting Circa is reason enough for me to make a trip from New York to Charlotte!

So, I am beyond thrilled that they are sharing their signature styles and talents in their first book. Known for their subtle color palettes, graceful furniture and an emphasis on comfort and entertaining, they create spaces that you crave to live in.

Jewelry's Secret Weapon: The Caliber Collection

I couldn't believe the news last night...another school shooting. Thankfully, everyone will be all right, but this is becoming too commonplace. While those in Washington, D.C. talk about solutions...and I pray we will have some soon, I knew that this was the right time to let you know about a clever idea that is happening now. Newark, New Jersey Mayor, Cory Booker and Jewelry For A Cause designer, Jessica Mindich, have collaborated on The Caliber Collection.
The collection was created from the metal of 250 guns and bullet casings seized by the Newark Police Department. The result is a series of pieces that embody the gun's transformation from a destructive weapon to a powerful symbol of renewal. The serial numbers on the bracelets match the serial numbers from the guns they were made from...a key element that links the two.

A portion of the proceeds from each sale will be used to fund future Gun Buyback Amnesty programs in Newark. It is their hope that this will be a model for other cities around the country.

I applaud Cory and Jessica for turning bullets into bling!

It's The Little Things

One thing I am trying to adhere to (a resolution if you will)... is an attitude of gratitude. Not only thinking about what I'm grateful for, but writing it down in a journal to reflect upon as the year progresses, as gratitude is recognizing that what you already have is enough.

I was inspired when I saw these gratitude and dream jars from Wisteria...complete with little colored papers. I'm far from a DIY gal, but I looked around the house and found, I had what I already needed to create my own.
I picked up the chalkboard labels and chalk at Terrain months ago. This summer, I think. Not knowing how I would use them. I think the jar was intended for my pantry, but never made it there.
These labels would be great for drinking they don't come off easily! But, you can wipe off your writing, just like a chalkboard!
I even found these textured papers in my sons' art area. Now, they are cut into little squares, ready for a word or two of gratitude.
My hope is that my boys will join me in writing down something they are grateful for each day and on Thanksgiving, we will pull them out and read them aloud.

After all, life is about appreciating the little things! And that's something I want them to learn early on. What are you grateful for today?

Friday Fashion - The Manifesto T

This "T" idea was meant to be!!! Mega blogger, digital and social media guru Meg Biram has created the Manifesto T and I love the idea and the shirt!
Here's the idea. Each month, Meg will design a "manifesto"(a written statement declaring intentions, motives or views) for a t-shirt, tank or sweatshirt. These are super soft fashion tees, but what makes them really fun is that they are limited edition. Once they're gone, they're gone.

For January, Meg selected a word that resonates with the beginning of a new year...evolve.

But, you can and should make these your own. See how some of the coolest bloggers out there interpreted their evolve Manifesto t-shirts!
Jessie Artigue - Style & Pepper
Grace Atwood - Stripes & Sequins
Victoria McGinley - vmac+cheese

I've ordered mine....I love a great product + meaning. If you're interested...I'd act quickly. At $44, it's a great price point for a gift, too.

Do you have plans to evolve this year?
