Jewelry's Secret Weapon: The Caliber Collection

I couldn't believe the news last night...another school shooting. Thankfully, everyone will be all right, but this is becoming too commonplace. While those in Washington, D.C. talk about solutions...and I pray we will have some soon, I knew that this was the right time to let you know about a clever idea that is happening now. Newark, New Jersey Mayor, Cory Booker and Jewelry For A Cause designer, Jessica Mindich, have collaborated on The Caliber Collection.
The collection was created from the metal of 250 guns and bullet casings seized by the Newark Police Department. The result is a series of pieces that embody the gun's transformation from a destructive weapon to a powerful symbol of renewal. The serial numbers on the bracelets match the serial numbers from the guns they were made from...a key element that links the two.

A portion of the proceeds from each sale will be used to fund future Gun Buyback Amnesty programs in Newark. It is their hope that this will be a model for other cities around the country.

I applaud Cory and Jessica for turning bullets into bling!

Elizabeth,
You sure know how to give a gal a shot in the arm to step up her style. Those bangles are clever.
I'd wear an armful to promote peace everywhere.

Wonderful idea for a wonderful cause...keep your eye on Cory Booker - he is a huge up and comer and I predict we will see more of him on a national level.

Keep warm today, Elizabeth...it's just TOO cold out there today!

Generally, I am against them, but now I find that least guns are good for something!

Anything to do that brings awareness for the need for change. I think it's a brave and brilliant idea. I was at the mall in Portland, OR that had the shooter in Dec. It was such an eery feeling. One of the 2 killed was a friend of my daughter's fiancee; a wonderful father, & husband. Thank you for posting Elizabeth!

Thanks too for your sweet comment on my blog. I love hearing from you. xx
