Pretty Organized

Happy Monday, everyone!! The last Monday in July. Isn't summer flying by?

Whether you're working at your desk or getting dressed for an evening out....it's so much more enjoyable when things are organized, pretty and a fresh bloom is in sight.
The perfume pictured above, Chloe, is what I wear on a daily basis throughout the summer!

What's on your desk or vanity that makes you smile?

Friday Flowers: Juliska & You

Happy  Friday, everyone! I hope you have had a great week! If you're like me, you'll be glued to some type of screen tonight to see the much anticipated kick off to the Olympics! I've heard the opening could be epic, to quote my youngest son!

Flower arranging may not put you into medal contention, but you'll feel like taking the podium when you're done. If you are one of my local readers, consider spending next Thursday, August 2nd, at the Juliska Flagship Store in Stamford, CT for an evening of flower arranging and cheer.

Cost is $25/person and includes: instructions, basic materials, a Juliska caning pot and light refreshments! Grab a friend and make a night of it!

You'll still be home in time to watch gymnastics!

Stamp of Approval

In this fast paced, techno world, there is something so appealing (at least to me) about old fashioned things. Like a hand stamp from the talented calligrapher, Molly, of Plurabelle.

From Thank You to I Love You to return addresses....these make a great addition to your own desk or a fabulous gift for a friend. It's never too early to start thinking about holiday gifts, especially if you want to have something customized.
Molly also does the most amazing calligraphy for holiday mailings, weddings, parties....even bowling parties! She's on vacation in France, lucky gal....for the month of July, but it's practically August, so check out her website and etsy site.

She gets my stamp of approval. How about yours?

London Calling

Have you had London on your mind? I have! First it was Will & Kate, then the Queen's Diamond Jubilee...this week it's the 2012 Summer Olympics. London, London, London!

So with a little cajoling....I convinced my other half to book us a trip there next summer. Let the planning begin!
Gwyneth came through with perfect timing....she just released her goop app for London. Thanks, GP!
Then, I'm cross referencing her info with the 3-Day Itinerary for Families from Indagare, voted best travel website by Vanity Fair U.K. I used their guides 2 years ago when we took our boys to Paris and I completely trust their recommendations.

Finally, I'll be reviewing all the recommendations from my younger, hipper blog friend, Lauren, of Aspiring Kennedy. A native of Dallas, like me, she is traveling the world, based out of London.

Have you been recently? Do you live there? Know an off-the-beaten-path place we just shouldn't miss? I would love to know.

Planning the trip is half the fun!

Dig This: An Herb Garden

Every time I bought herbs at the grocery store or was about to finish preparing a dish only to realize I was missing, say, basil....I would swear to myself that I would plant an herb garden. This happened over and over. Until. I found a Bar Harbor Cedar kitchen garden. Now, I'm growing basil, mint, cilantro, strawberries, tomatoes, chive, thyme, lavender and parsley.
The cedar, has no chemicals...so none can leach into the soil. There are also accessories you can add, such as, a potting shelf, a side table and a potting lid, so that you can cover it in the winter or use it as a serving table.

And, now, I'm never out of herbs!

Do you have a kitchen garden, grow your own herbs or produce? It's a lot easier than I had imagined.

Divine Dallas Design: Cynthia Collins

Mention my hometown of Dallas, TX....and I'm all ears. Or, in this case....all eyes.

D magazine recently featured the stunning home of Dallas interior designer and Blueprint shop owner, Cynthia Collins. Her home is in one of my favorite areas of Dallas and like Cynthia, I'm the lone woman in a household of men/boys. Also, like Cynthia, I think it's ok to have a little feminine flair in a home where you're outnumbered.

Cynthia and her husband, Bruce, bought the house and left it as it was for 4 years. Then, they took it down to the studs. What follows is not only pretty, but practical.
You can read the entire article here to learn more about Cynthia, her home and her sources. They are all listed!!

Any element above that you especially love? I have several, including the porcelain butterflies installed above her kitchen hood. Please, do tell!

Speaking of having fun, I'm going to begin "summer hours" posting M,W,F each week until the end of summer.

Do you have anything to celebrate in the coming months?

Art in the Family: The Geschardts

Artists leave me in awe. Many of you are artists. So, yes, you leave me in awe. To be able to create something from a blank canvas that delights, amuses and moves people is an amazing talent.

So to have two such people in one family, such as husband and wife, Danny & Reagan Geschardt, both talented artists....I'm doubly in awe.

Above and below are paintings by Reagan. Inspired by her travels and studies throughout Europe, her love of abstract expressionism and the natural environment that surrounds her, she creates paintings that are soulful interpretations of her daily experiences.
This talented couple has two young daughters, age 3 and 5, so they usually paint in the evenings. Danny listens to music while he paints in their unfinished basement. Reagan prefers the quiet of their studio.
Below is Danny's work...both individually and as used by interior designer, Beth Field in a client's home.
For more information you can check out Reagan's website or email Danny at dgeschardt@hotmail.com.

"Great art picks up where nature ends" ~ Marc Chagall

No matter the size of your home, if you have art and flowers, in my humble opinion.....you live majestically.
