Powered Up and Moving the Holidays

Happy Monday! It feels SO good to be back online and connecting again!

Thank you to each and every one of you who left a comment, sent an email or text to check in on us during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Most of our small town had no power for nearly 2 weeks and I've learned that I don't do very well when I'm cold. Everyone I know has their own story and it was one of the most trying times I've ever experienced. Yet, we realize that our journey was one of inconvenience and frustration. There are thousands of people who have had their homes damaged, destroyed or are still without power. I know your thoughts and prayers are with them, as are mine.

Talking about the holidays, which are literally around the corner, may seem trivial, but I find that whatever you fill your mind with is what it will reap. And, right now, I need happy and light!!

As a mom, one of my favorite online sites has been The Land of Nod. Toys, sheets, artwork....they just seem to have their pulse on what childhood should be. Bringing their world to life, they have opened their first NYC Pop Up Shop in Soho! They have shared their list of events with me, so if you live in or will be visiting the Big Apple this season, go visit their holiday fantasy land.
Their holiday shop is chock full of colorful, charming decorations and gifts. My TOP PICK for a holiday gift for little boys or girls is their wood carved checkers set and chess pieces. Perfect for those holiday vacation nights by the fire and tempting enough to lure them away from their xbox, wii or handheld devices. I've already got mine ready to wrap for my boys.
Over the coming weeks, I look forward to sharing my picks for holiday decor, gifts and ways to enjoy the season.

Most of all, I'm thankful for you!!

True, being cold seems nothing compared to the future that many are faced with, homeless and all. It warms my spirit to see so many coming to help, to give, to share with generous hearts - especially as we approach the holidays.
I am delighted your power has been restored and that you are getting back to living the land of pretty pink tulips sharing good things to give.
Wishing you a wonderful day today.

So nice to see you back!! What an incredible reign of terror Sandy spread. Even though we were only inconvenienced in comparison to so many, it is still enervating and disruptive. But on to the pretty - I love Land of Nod and was a favorite when the kids were younger. What fun is a pop up store. And loved Lisa's lamp picks from them for her Rooms with a View space!!

Elizabeth - I am happy you are finally warm and your life is returning to normal! It's been a rough couple of weeks all around.
And, thanks for sharing the lovely Land of Nod goodies - I love their things, but don't have any little ones to buy for these days. Enjoy the day - it's supposed to be nice once the fog lifts!

Hi Elizabeth! It brightened my day considerably to see a post come up from you this morning. I'm so glad that things are warming up for you and that although the past few weeks have been difficult, you and your family and your lovely home have come through in one piece. My heart goes out to those who were less fortunate.

The Land of Nod is a go-to for us for the smaller set in our life - there is a store not too far from me. How fun that they are doing a NYC pop-up.

Hope you have a wonderful warm week, and welcome back!! XO

So happy that things are getting better, Elizabeth. My thoughts and prayers have been with all of you.
You had my at plaid, and the wooden chess and checker pieces are fabulous. I want one of each for myself!
Happy Monday.

So glad you made it through OK! We were walloped by the snow on top of Sandy, but then in comparison to what others lost, inconvenience and a few trees are not too much to complain about.

It's so good to have you back and blogging! We met the lovely ladies from The Land of Nod at the ALT Summit in NY and they are so creative. Would love to see the pop-up shop in person!

It must be wonderful to have power again. It's amazing how much we rely on these basic conveniences, isn't it?Hoping power will be restored to all soon.

So glad to hear you finally have power! One of my husbands work associates in Pennsylvania was still without power as of this morning. I can't imagine..

When my kids were young I used to mail order from Land of Nod catalog. We finally have a retail store near us.. lots of great shopping to be had there!

Happy to know you and your family are safe and have power now. That is just awful to not have power for almost 2 weeks. Love your blog and have a good week.
