Renovation Diary: The Shades

Several of your asked about the roman shades in the new powder bath that I posted...so I thought you might like to see their "kissing cousins" across the landing. Same fabric. Same trim. Different design. I had to have a little Greek key somewhere, and it was a nice way to tie this upstairs area together.

I have been working with Michele Green Designs and must tell you how much I think of her design eye and professionalism. If you're near my area....she's an absolute gem! Her workroom did the fabrication.

Fabric is by Fabricut. Pattern is Breezy in Color #20.
Trim is a French grosgrain ribbon in Charcoal by Samuel & Sons.
And since I had the pleasure of meeting Benjamin Moore's in house blogger, Michelle Zakko, I want to give them a shout out because I used all Benjamin Moore paints on the renovation.

The powder bath is: Amherst Gray
The landing and playroom are: Light Pewter
Trim throughout: White Dove

Next, I thought I'd take you back downstairs into the the mudroom, which you walk directly into from the side entry. I really wanted closed cubbies in this high traffic area. I like to collect, but I don't love clutter. And, this way my boys can shove all the jackets, backpacks, artwork and random items into their cubbies and I can still feel zen. The drawers below are for shoes...yes, they get dirty, but I'd rather clean them out than look at dirty sneakers!
How many of you have the classic L.L. Bean bags?!
It's pretty bare bones right now, but it's functioning! Next,I need a colorful seat cushion for the built in bench. Hmmm...this project doesn't seem to end.

Are you starting new projects or are you taking the summer off?

Elizabeth,
What an endeavor and you have so carefully thought of every detail! Thank-you for sharing your shady spot~
Love it and I know you will continue to add your flourish.
Starting lots of new projects always keeps me happy and then planning a wee bit of time off gives me time to re-charge. A bit of both here! Taking the Summer off would be lovely but not a reality here. I have my business which requires lots of action. I love it all~~~

Looks great Elizabeth! I hope to one day have a cubby like that- our house is way too small and without kids I can't justify it yet. But one day!

Elizabeth, everything looks fantastic. The roman shades look so polished and I love your gray/white color scheme. (We also have Benjamin Moore's White Dove for all of the trim in our house). I'm filing away your mudroom photos because I want to do something similar with our basement entrance which I want us to start using more in the fall when we plan to get a dog. It would be great to have cubbies for leashes and a place to wipe muddy paws. I think that projects are never truly done in a home - we've been in ours for four years and always have something going on! This summer it's a redo of the the built-ins in the family room to make room for a giant TV my husband can't live without.
Congratulations on such a successful remodel! XO

Love the shades. Beautiful.
Thank you for sharing all of this information, and yes, my daughter and I have an LLBean bag and just love them. I don't think they will ever wear out, especially if they are anything like their book bags!
Your home is SO beautiful, and you have done wonderful job adding on.

Oh, love these shades! And I am catching up, the bathroom is fabulous! And can I say that I am SOOOO envious of your mudroom. We had to table our mudroom in the remodel b/c the budget only went so far. I have big drawers in our butler's pantry off the kitchen for shoes.....even my 19 month old knows to put his shoes away! Love seeing the inside...you have done a fabulous job!

Thanks for sharing the details - love both curtains and the really complement each other.

Aaaah....the mudroom and cubbies. Love yours but they look nothing like mine. Mine are simliar in size and design minus the doors. They seem to collect the uncollected - everything that doesn't have a home. I.MUST.DO.SOMETHING.ABOUT.IT.NOW!
